This is the home
page for Milt & Judy Baker's Nordhavn 47-32, Bluewater.
This website aims
to provide one couple's perspective on building, outfitting,
commissioning and cruising a Nordhavn full displacement
motor
yacht. We came to the process with decades of cruising
experience under sail and power, but we'd like
to point out that the choices we have made in building and
outfitting may not be right for you. Like all serious
cruisers, we have our own prejudices and sometimes cannot be
persuaded by logic or evidence!
In the three years since taking delivery, we have taken
Bluewater offshore to the Caribbean and Venezuela, then to
New England via Bermuda, and we have crossed the Atlantic
from Fort Lauderdale to Gibraltar, then taken the boat
across the Mediterranean Sea to Croatia, then back to the
Balearic Islands--a total of roughly
18,000 miles and 2,700 engine hours by the end of October
2008. Many Nordhavn owners have compiled
far more miles in a shorter time, but we now know our boat far better than when we
started--we've
been able to take care of pressing warranty issues, make
important updates and additions, and we've reached an almost
zen-like state of comfort with our boat.
After two terrific
summers cruising in the Mediterranean--an experience we
highly recommend--Bluewater is enroute
back to the USA via Dockwise Yacht Transport. We plan
to spend the next year or two cruising the U.S. East Coast
and Bahamas, wintering in Florida and the Bahamas and
summering in Maine.
If you have
questions, ideas, suggestions or thoughts concerning our
boat or this website, we'd like to hear from you. If
you'd like to contact us, please send a short e-mail to: miltbaker@mindspring.com
We're able to check that address every few weeks when we
have a good Internet connection, so it may take us awhile to
get back to you.
