Electronics
We spec'd the electronics for N4732 and laid out the placement using AutoCAD. Most of the electronics were shipped to China for installation at the factory and later terminated, tested and burned-in in Florida. Although Bluewater is essentially a 24-volt boat, many of the vital electronics are powered by a dedicated 12-volt electronics battery located in the wheel house and charged by its own dedicated charger. Through a parallel switch, this battery can also be charged by the 6 kW generator's alternator.
Principal electronics are shown below. Not shown are transducers, antennas, auxiliary speakers, and other auxiliary equipment. Also not shown here are the main television receiver and saloon stereo.
New to the list is the Furuno FA-150 AIS transceiver. After cruising our first 10,000 miles with a receive-only AIS--which we found to be a terrific addition, by the way--we concluded that we wanted other ships to know who and where we are, especially important when cruising offshore. Now, with an Atlantic crossing behind us, we're very pleased with what the two-way AIS has done for us. I personally believe that an AIS transceiver is a vital piece of safety equipment for any offshore passagemaking yacht.

Engine controls are Glendinning "Smart Actuator" electronic controls, and with a separate Glendinning hand-held remote control on a 30-foot tether which can be used on either bridge wing (or elsewhere) for close-quarters maneuvering. The Glendinning remote control can handle shifting and throttle (main or wing engine), bow thruster, and rudder.
The basic electronics layout is shown below.
